Grateful for my friends, and for you too!
There is an old John Wayne movie I enjoy watching, ‘Angel and the Badman’. John Wayne plays a gun slinger, who was shot and is taken in by a Quaker family who nurse him back to health. John Wayne, and the Quaker family collide on almost every facet of their lives and neither seems to [...]

Dark Night of the Soul
This happens to people of every culture, religion, and belief system. Some people believe everyone goes through this, others believe only a few go through it. People you know are spending their lives in static misery because they could not complete it, others died along the way. A very few people, come out the other [...]

Ghosts, vampires, and imaginary playmates
Over the years I have seen many strange apparitions. Halloween is only a few days away and it feels like a good time to write about them.
As a child I had two imaginary playmates. Playmates that were always in my backyard. The first wore a white sailor’s uniform. The second wore a sailor’s work uniform, [...]

Changing habits, and social groups with one word
Have you ever noticed that no matter what your interests are, the people you hang around with share most of your interests too? It is likely that if you are into sports, social settings, or getting your education, most people around you are too. I think of it this way, ‘No matter where I go, [...]

Family memories on the porch
I spent the day out of town visiting family today. I always enjoy visiting family. It is nice to see the kids, and how they grow. Listening to their views and occasional embellished stories is always special. Some of their funniest stories come from things they observe, or have recently happened at their school, [...]

Lowriders, life in the slow lane
Almost everybody when driving, speeds to some extent going from one place to another. On the streets today, there are [usually] street legal Japanese cars that have been highly modified. Generally the modifications were at a considerable cost to the owner, although easy to install. Once completed these cars can complete a quarter mile at [...]

Grateful but not on Sunday, stop lights, tail gating, and breakfast
Today is my Sunday, or for most people on my schedule, my first day off for the week. Because the Monday through Friday work week never materialized for me, changing my Sunday rest day in this way this has been a boon for me.
Having my first day off as a rest day, makes my ‘Sunday’ [...]

Little boxes of bad memories
Little boxes, Malvina Reynolds sings about them, and most of have at least one among our possessions. We like boxes because they are a nice safe place to store those things we wish to keep. We keep all sorts of knick knacks, books, small items, and memorabilia in little boxes. And as Malvina Reynolds sings [...]

Full moons, restaurants, stocks, and driving
In the mid-seventies, I was a night shift manager of a now defunct restaurant. In the mid-eighties I was fascinated by the top 100 stocks of the Dow Jones sector of the Stock Market. Now, in the late two-thousands, I have my life, and I am very happy with it. Over the years, across different [...]

Know your death, and live a better life
Carlos Castaneda wrote many pages on the subject, as he transcribed the thoughts of Don Juan and others onto paper. Castaneda wrote with much passion about being intimate with ones own death. The Marine Corps alludes to this in every commercial, as does the Army, probably the Air Force and Navy to a lesser extent.
The [...]
