Debian 64 Bit Linux Overview

I wanted to see Linux in action in 64 bits. It seems there are only a few choices, Ubuntu and Debian were the only distributions I found using 64 bit software. I thought I would give Debian a go first planning on installing Ubuntu afterwards. Ubuntu is/was derived from Debian, and many programs could be interchanged between repositories without issue.

Debian Linux is unique in Debian only uses software that meets certain licensing requirements. In general this is software that is not proprietary, or restricted. If you are curious you go to the Debian website, as the explanation tends to get a little convoluted and I do not wish to give the wrong explanation.

Going to Debian’s home page is always an experience. Debian home page is no frills, and makes no claim to being simple to use, with hordes of people ready to help you if you have problems. Debian’s web site tells you about Debian and directs you to options you may choose concerning Debian.

Selecting ‘Getting Debian’ brought me to a page of download and installation options. I chose to download the small image file and copy it off to cd. This option downloads and installs most needed programs via internet connection. One caveat about this install, it does not support a wireless connection for the install.

The installation other than being hard wired to the net is about the same as any other installation. You need to have free space on your hard drive if you are going to dual boot. You need to create partitions. I use three partitions, Root, Home, and Swap. Debian installed painlessly, taking about twenty minutes or so, which is about average for an install.

Debian 64I now had a usable Debian install with a basic Gnome desktop. I could not see or hear an online video, listen to an mp3, or watch some other videos. I did not yet have a wireless connection according to the installation documentation I read.

This brought me to the interesting part of using Debian. Using Debian as general users use computers, you need to hunt down what you need, and sometimes it is not apparent what you need, or where to find it. While Debian’s website has excellent documentation, it assumes that the reader knows what they are looking for.

My wireless connection is a good example. To get the drivers and programs needed to set up my wireless card, I needed to know exactly what my laptop wireless card is. Knowing what connection types it supports, or who makes it is not enough, an exact model number is required.

Finding this information means going to the manufacturer website and searching for my a parts list. I was fortunate in I found my wireless card listed, some computers are not that simple because the manufacturer uses whatever works for that day, and may not be consistent week to week with parts it uses.

I had my wireless card information. Now I had to locate new repositories to download drivers and programs from to enable my wireless. The documentation I found directed me to specific Ubuntu repositories. I added the repositories (another few steps using a root terminal or Synaptic), and installed the programs. A quick reboot and I had a wireless connection.

What I know as Windows codecs is about the same process. My web cam was another trip into the documentation and guessing what kind of camera it was. My laptop manufacturer was in a cost savings mode for web cams, and only admitted to using a usb web cam. I located and installed more drivers and programs. Using a program named Cheese, it works. For other uses, I do not not know yet.

Debian 64 bit appears to boot and shutdown faster than what I have experienced with 32 bit versions. All the software I need or want is available. After a number of shutdowns and reboots, everything works as advertised.

Debian has always been a rock solid Linux. Two of Debian’s ongoing criticisms are lack of friendliness for new users, and the difficulty of finding what you need for general computer use that does not fit Debian’s licensing requirements. These two criticisms deserved or not, have not changed for the 64 bit version of Debian.

If you want a Linux Distribution where you pop in the CD and sit back, Debian is not for you. If you want a solid system having some control over what is on it, and you don’t mind doing a little searching, Debian is a good choice. Debian gives you freedom to tweak, change, add and subtract as much or as little as you choose. With thousands of packages in the repositories, your options are endless.

Your Life Is Happy If It Is You

When I was a toddler just out of diapers we lived in the country. There is always a lot to explore for a small child, as everything is new and exciting. There was the foot wide ditch the kitchen sink emptied into, there were the bugs that lived under pieces of board left on the ground, there were ant hills, and there spiders and other interesting bugs. There was also the garbage pile, which I am sure my parents would have rather I did not discover.

Being just out of diapers with so much to explore and do, body functions would tend to get away from me. Children that young do not know the concept of lying but I was on my way to learning in my own way. I would be so busy exploring or playing the fact I had to take a crap right now would be in the back of my mind as I danced around trying to not think about it. Suddenly it would be too late, and it was coming out and I was not on the toilet.

As an enterprising little boy who was starting to learn the art of lying, I started blaming my accidents on my dog. I would say when my Mom was frustrated, “I didn’t do it, Rebel [my dog] did.” Perfect logic for a toddler to have something in his pants that his best friend, his dog Rebel put in his underwear while he was not paying attention.

One day when my Dad was watching me, it happened again. As people we use whatever works, and blaming my dog for my accidents was working fine, so I used it on my Dad. My dad listened to my excuse, cleaned me up, and put clean clothes on me. Then he spanked me. As I cried my father said, “You didn’t get the spanking, Rebel did.”

be yourselfI learned a lesson that day, and the days of my dog Rebel messing my underwear came to an end. What continued was the idea of being someone else. When I was old enough to leave the yard and meet other kids for a baseball game, or football we did what I imagine most kids did and maybe still do. We would pick who we were going to be for the game.

As I became an adult, being someone else faded. Occasionally I would wish I were someone else, but never actually named someone I wanted to be. Instead, I would think if I were Muhammed Ali, what would I do or say right now. If I were Chuck Yeager, what would I do? It was a way of pretending to be someone else. Instead of being that person for a time, I would do what I thought they might do.

While trying to be like my heroes would in this situation helped, when I was a child actually pretending to be that person it was easier. The problem with trying to be someone is it only works in the short term. It is easy to act like your hero for a few minutes to a few hours, but any longer and the cracks start to appear. After you have gone through all the actions you know they do, you start becoming yourself again.

Eventually I changed or become eccentric, and started being exactly who I thought I was instead of someone else. People would either like me, or they would not. At any rate, I was tired of acting. Acting is a hard job, and even harder when you act every waking minute.

What I found was life was more genuine, and real. Some people did not care for the change in me, others of course loved it. I found I loved the change in me, because I did not have to think about who I was supposed to be, I could just be me. I took the blame for me, and I took the credit for me. Being me was a nice change in my life.

Pretending to be someone else is fun for an hour or two. It helps you experience things you may not have the courage to try on your own. Pretending to be someone else for so long, people around you think your acting is the real you, is possibly flattering to that person, if you do it well, but terribly hard on you.

When you find yourself in a tough spot, think about what your hero would do, and imitate them, but do not try to be them. Make what you think they would do a part of your character so it becomes a part of you. Think of it as a life building exercise. For your normal day in life, practice being you. It works much better for you and others in your life.

Psychic and Scared The Positives Part 5

I have been written on mostly the negatives of being psychic and seeing things considered paranormal. As you work your way through all the unknowns of being psychic, there is a proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. It is however an individual opinion however whether the grass is really greener on the other side – pun intended.

Working with and improving your newfound talents opens up a new world not readily accessible to most people. If you are curious about your new world, properly using your newfound talent is rewarding, uplifting, and most importantly, self validating. Using your gifts for the wrong purpose leads to you being labeled as a fraud or con artist and putting yourself in a position where you can be greatly hurt or harmed, both psychically and physically.

The best learning is to learn about ourselves. Spending some time each day or each week reflecting or meditating leads to better insight about ourselves, our world, and our spiritual self. It may become possible to know and understand many of the spiritual mysteries of the world, religious mysteries and non religious too. Knowing things about our existence that others guess at.

Knowing, not guessing or believing something that may or may not be true brings a feeling of peace. You understand your place in the world and what you bring to the table to make life better for all. You no longer wonder about differences in belief systems. You understand many things considered supernatural. Knowing is within your ability if you choose to want to know. Knowing brings contentment to your life.

para finalI believe psychic talent is a mixed bag. On one side is some of the questions we ponder daily are answered. It is rewarding to be able to help people in certain areas of their life. It is rewarding to help people find reasonable solutions to their problems or pointing them in a direction where they can be helped. It is especially rewarding not to be scared of the generally unseen or unknown.

Learning how to be properly responsible is a secondary gift. Sometimes people do not want to know anything new, even though they say they do. Telling them something they need to hear but do not want to hear, only makes them angry and resentful. At times it is best to stick to the middle road.

Helping someone who has passed over can be very rewarding, especially if that person is in a situation that they can not rest from until they fix it. Helping someone who never felt quite complete become a whole person spiritually is also very rewarding, and satisfying.

Do not expect everyone you may help to be happy about the process. Sometimes helping people brings back memories they spent years forgetting, and although they may be grateful they now feel complete, they may not be happy with the memories that comes with that feeling. In time though people you have helped are thankful for the experience.

Learning the truth about our spiritual life or spiritual world makes life more exciting and more rewarding. Knowing our individual purpose or path is wonderful. We are not in our life by accident. We came here for a purpose and understanding what that purpose is and working towards that purpose is very satisfying. Knowing that we are not a world of billions of individuals living apart, but melded by shared goals and shared vision makes life fuller.

Of course for any of these things to be known instead of wondered, imagined, or read, one must pass a series of challenges or tests. As silly as the idea sounds, it is true. As a responsible adult you would not give children dangerous toys to play with hoping they will treat them with respect. Neither are the gifts you find you have complete and honed to their highest abilities. To use your gifts to their utmost, you should be responsible with them.

The first challenge is setting your fears of the unknown aside. You must be able to set fear aside and look beyond childish attempts to scare you away. Learning how to see the world in a new way without becoming overwhelmed or bitter is a beginning step too. You will need to have enough wisdom to know when it is a good time to be scared and ask for help, because something is beyond your ability alone.

In the world of the paranormal as in the mundane, no one is an island as much as it feels like it at times. We each have our own path to follow, and it may seem as if we are individuals, though really we are working towards a common purpose or goal. Using your gifts or talents properly instead of being scared of them is what you were meant to do. Your gifts when used properly will bring fulfillment and purpose into your life.

Psychic and Scared The Rest Part 4

Do you prefer to be away from people. Do you find people or places drain your energy, or when you are around people for too long you start feeling sad? Do you get depressed around crowds of people? Do you suddenly feel scared, or have feelings of dislike from certain individuals without any real reason? Do you know a person you are talking to has a hidden life they keep secret from others?

If so you may belong to a unique group of people who are known as Empaths. Empathy is picking up on and feeling emotion or other characteristics of someone or something. They could be standing right next to you or be far away, distance is not a concern. I think people who think they have been in contact with what are called ‘psychic vampires’ are likely Empaths who do not know they are.

Empaths usually do not enjoy groups of people, and are occasionally thought of as loners or distant. Empaths are sort of chameleons in they pick up and feel the emotions of others as easily as they feel their own thoughts and emotions. Generally these are the stronger emotions, such as loneliness, sorrow, wanting, and the like.

psy 7Someone who displays the characteristics of an Empath can be happy and having fun and suddenly start to feel lonely or depressed without any reason for the change in emotion other than someone they have an emotional bond with or a strong personality they have recently been in contact with is feeling these strong emotions.

Mainstream community thinking in general dismisses someone being an Empath just as psychic ability is dismissed or attributed as a lucky guess or two. For someone who knows they are an Empath, they have close up and prsonal understanding of what is going on around them.

Being an Empath is difficult as emotions and feeling need to be constantly checked against a personal standard because of the degrees of emotions. It is possible an Empath may feel sad over something that happened in their day, but their sadness in amplified by the feeling of another that inadvertently became part of their feeling of sadness without their realizing it even happened.

Of course on thought to be aware of is empathy can be mistaken for physical or emotional disorders that one may not even be aware of. Being an Empath makes life difficult. Unlike someone who is not, emotions or feelings should not be taken for granted as being your own, but examined as whether they came from an external source.

With enough practice in examining your own feelings and emotions, it will become second nature and you won’t even notice you are doing it. It is easier to manage the emotional roller coaster many Empaths find themselves on when they can quickly dismiss a thought or emotion as belonging to someone or something else, and not their own.

I think a number of people who think they suffer from depression, take medication that does not help, and have no physical reason to hold strong emotion are Empaths and do not know it. It may be people who think of themselves as clairvoyant, or sensitives are empaths, or perhaps empaths belong under one of those labels.

Psychic and Scared The Rest Part 3

Validation is important if you think you are communicating with someone or something. Being scared or nervous about what is happening to you sometimes makes for a loose interpretation of what you think you see or heat, though precision comes with practice. So it is with validating what you think you know. You may know the general subject, but miss the fine details if you are too quick to decide.

Spirits and other entities have been here as long as mankind has been around, perhaps longer. Ancient to modern day texts are filled with examples of spirit and human interaction. The Bible is full of spirit visits, demons, angels and hidden knowledge. Jesus is mentioned many times talking with spirits of one sort or another.

Ancient civilizations are well documented having seers, fortune tellers, and dream readers. Spiritual healing is common in both ancient and modern cultures. Today there are still ancient societies which know there are more worlds than the our one physical world.

Spirits do not go away because we grow up, or technology advanced. What has happened is most of us have become incapable of realizing they are around. Our parents became to involved in modern life, and forgot to teach us there is more to life than electronic toys.

psy 5We are told from early childhood the Boogie Man in the closet, Leprechauns and their pots of gold, and the Tooth Fairy are children’s stories, and nothing more. If we disagree we are told in a more firm manner. We are told that there is a God, but God is distant and uncommunicative with us. We are so conditioned we can not even hear God when we are spoken to. We think God left home a few thousand years ago. We write these things off to our imagination, or a trick of our ears or eyes.

We were all born with some psychic ability. Unfortunately by the time we reach adulthood, most of us firmly believe nothing exists unseen except a God we don’t know and Satan. We are conditioned to believe God is distant and quiet, and Satan is all too active attempting to trip us in up as we live our life.

For many people Satan is everywhere or nowhere. Satan is the bringer of everything wrong in our life, and God won’t fix it for us. Seeing a dead Aunt in the middle of the night is a demon in disguise trying to trick us. Truth is we have already deceived ourselves long before that happens.

We do not imagine being surrounded by angels, but we easily imagine being surrounded by demons. We are not, most of us aware of the two or more beings that are with us every moment we draw a breath. We think animals are inane, soulless, creatures, and we alone are the only creature God, if God exists has any interest in. We are so conditioned in our arrogance, most of us would not recognize Satan if Satan stood right in front of us and smiled for our camera.

There are multitudes of beings or entities living in and roaming around our world who can speak with us if they choose. Some of us can hear and talk with them too, even if we would prefer not to. Any living plant, insect, or animal can speak with us if we allow it, and they choose to speak. Other things we do not think of as alive also can communicate of we only listen.

People with paranormal abilities discover this and accept it. Some entities or beings have interests that align with ours, and willingly form alliances for our mutual benefit. Other entities have only their interests in mind which clash with ours, and they may see us as their enemy. Others are simply neutral.

Some beings are very unsociable, and will quickly let you know it. Others are chatter boxes and hard to quiet down once they start talking. They are generally like us.They have their wants and needs which may or may not be similar to ours. Those who have passed on and not yet started life in their new dimension can become pests or bullies if not quelled when they discover you can hear them.

How do you decide if you, or someone you know is the real deal, scamming, or living in a fictional world? I had to figure this out for myself. I will share what I know with you with the intention that it will help you, or someone you know decide where they fit. It sounds simple and perhaps it is. It is not that simple when it is you, and you do not know what to do or where to look for help.

No matter how scared or confused you may feel over what is happening remember you are in charge almost without exception. The only exception I know of is if you were playing with what we know as demonic spirits. If you gave it permission to be around you because you thought it would be fun, you may have a problem now. They will attach to you, if you let them close to you, or you called on them for whatever reason.

Once they attach to you, they tend to undergo a personality change and won’t be the pleasant company you would prefer. You may need help getting rid of it/them unless you have a strong resolve. Not too many people have that level of resolve to deal with that type of spirit alone because they initially asked it to be a part of their world.

psy 3First and foremost, you must believe there is nothing to be scared of because there is not anything more spiritually powerful than you are. You are not abnormal, cursed, or possessed. There are lots of people who are just like you. They found explanations and you will too.

Nothing can hurt you unless you allow it to. No matter what you see, or hear, or feel emotionally, nothing can harm you unless you give it permission to harm or hurt you. You can demand anything you do not want around you to go away from you and never return you will be obeyed. Or you can speak to it, and see what it wants. Maybe it needs or wants your help to do something.

Do you have repetitive dreams, such as meeting the same group of people, or being visited by the same person with some frequency? They may not be scary dreams, but dreams that have no link to your every day life. You may dream about living somewhere you have never been. Or know about places and streets of towns or cities you have never read about before. You may dream about living in a different time or country.

If it is real, then it becomes a matter of is it something you want to get involved with or not. Tell yourself you don’t want these experiences and they go away eventually in many cases. If you were to meet someone on the street, you do not immediately trust them. If someone tells you something that doesn’t make sense, you usually do not believe them.

The same rules apply. Don’t be quick to judge, or quick to trust. Don’t believe what you see either. A scary or gross image, can as easily be a baby kitten, someone your age, or a lovely man or woman. Big, little, beautiful, ugly, or gross, it’s only an image for you to see. Our rules and our physics do not apply here. Sometimes the image is for showing what can not be said.

Can anything you believe you see, know, or hear be verified by someone else who does not have any interest in you? If you hear someone call your name from above and to the right, does anyone else hear it too? If you see visions, ghosts, people, or something else, does anyone around you see or feel anything as it happens before you tell them?

Do you know something you should not or could not know? Perhaps you know for example an incident in someone’s personal life. Something they have never shared with you or something that can be verified? Do you ever suddenly realize you know something about a stranger you just met? Do you suddenly know something about someone who has recently died because they just told you?

You need to determine whether what is happening around you is real, imagination, or coincidence. You should test it as you should test your beliefs. You should not believe anything is real or true because you want it to be. It may be you have an overactive imagination, or you cue off of something you are not even aware of.

You may have a medical condition that is causing whatever is going on. Do not take anything spiritual or paranormal at face value. Demand proof and be a hard nosed sceptic about yourself and your experiences. Once every possibility is eliminated you are left knowing what you experience (like it or not) is real.
